J. Claire

Poet of the Wild

Revelry is the first book in the “R” series poetry collection. The poems included are soaked in sun and hope, whisking the reader away on a journey through wild exploration and stillness. A delicate compilation of heart, love, and mischief, Revelry is an uplifting, positive, and comforting book that can be a security blanket for some and a conversation starter for others. Though these poems are written from a female perspective, these universal emotions are felt and can be used to connect with all, as this is the human experience.

Revelry by J. Claire is a beautiful and powerful, yet delicate collection of fine poems that speak to the heart because they come from the heart and mind of what I would call a true poet. What’s a true poet? The definition could be different for everyone, but for me, it’s a person with the ability to put elusive images, thoughts, ideas, and observations into words in an artistic way. This collection is part of The R Series, and the poems range from love, play, fun, hope, loss, and many other topics and themes. As you read these poems, you just feel that that’s what this author is meant to do. She has such an easy way of expressing things that you instantly find yourself relating to most, if not all, of the poems.
The author’s style is varied as well, which I appreciate. Some poems feel more luxurious and expansive and on the traditional side, while others are short and clipped, almost like a rap song being delivered into a microphone. And the placement on the page is refreshing, too. You may get a whole poem the conventional way, or you may get a few words scattered randomly here and there, and you find yourself searching for the next word. This keeps readers interested, engaged, and piques our interest to find and read more. You get the sense that, as a whole package, these poems represent the poet’s personal journey, and her desire or need to put parts of her life into words, yet they resonate universally.
These poems are full of imagery that you can see in your mind’s eye, as well as touch, taste, and smell. This poet does a wonderful job of describing thoughts and feelings that are hard to put into words, like how rain feels in the desert, or what stone mountains must be like. I especially like the poems on romance, as they recall those hard-to-define emotions we have when we fall in love, and it’s all good. The nature poems are exquisite, too. Some read like tiny essays that come alive to your senses.
The main message for me in this collection of poems is to revel in life itself and all the experiences it has to offer you – both positive and negative, and to not let life pass you by, even if you encounter some pain along the way. If you need some inspiration and some words of hope and healing, Revelry by J. Claire is a volume of poetry to open those doors.
